Where Charlotte Learns to Love the Game

We started Own Touch because we believed player development could be done better. Less noise. More intention. A place where players could train seriously and still enjoy the game.

Today, Own Touch is a soccer training program in Charlotte, NC, built around long-term development. We work with youth players every day, and our focus stays the same. Help them build skill, confidence, and a strong relationship with the game.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a consistent, world class environment where young athletes master their technical craft, sharpen their mental game, and feel fully supported. Success looks different for every player, and our job is to help each one move forward with clarity and confidence.

How Own Touch Began

Own Touch was founded in 2009 in Richmond, Virginia. In 2018, we expanded to Charlotte after seeing a clear need in the local soccer landscape.
Youth soccer had become crowded with rankings and pressure. Training environments were inconsistent and often driven by short-term results. What was missing was a neutral space where players could train consistently without politics.
We created Own Touch to fill that gap, and that purpose still drives everything we do.

Our Philosophy

We believe players develop best when they are treated as individuals, not outcomes. That belief comes from years of watching young athletes lose confidence in environments driven by pressure, rankings, and short-term results. When players feel rushed or evaluated instead of coached, progress slows and enjoyment fades. Our training is built to do the opposite. Sessions are structured, intentional, and focused on repetition, problem-solving, and growth over time. Players are encouraged to make mistakes, ask questions, and take responsibility for their development. Our soccer coaches focus on teaching players how to think, adapt, and solve problems on the field, not just repeat drills. This philosophy shapes how we coach every session and how we support players at every stage. The goal is lasting skill, confidence, and a healthy relationship with the game.

The Training Environment

True growth happens in spaces defined by consistency and support. We’ve seen young athletes stall in high-pressure environments driven by comparison; development suffers when a player feels rushed rather than coached.

Our indoor studios are designed to remove those distractions. By training year-round, we ensure progress isn’t dictated by the seasons. We encourage players to take risks and own their mistakes, balancing elite challenge with genuine care. At Own Touch, emotional well-being is a core pillar of athletic development, not an afterthought.

Commitment to the Journey

While our alumni have reached collegiate, professional, and international levels, we don’t sell guaranteed outcomes. Development doesn’t follow a script; it is shaped by an individual’s health, commitment, and passion.
We don’t promise trophies, we promise consistency. Through thoughtful coaching and a structured environment, we equip players with the tools to take their journey as far as they choose to go.

A Community Built Through Trust

Own Touch has grown through word of mouth rather than marketing.

Many families describe Own Touch as the best soccer academy they’ve experienced because of the consistency and care built into the training.
Families stay because they see changes that matter. Players become more comfortable on the ball. Confidence improves. Work habits mature. The relationship with the game becomes healthier.
One parent put it simply. “If Own Touch didn’t exist, the community would be missing sanity.” That kind of trust is earned slowly, and we take it seriously.

Supporting the Club Experience

We are not a replacement for team play or a competitor to local clubs. Our role is to support the individual athlete exactly where they are. Whether a player needs technical refinement, a confidence reset, or a reliable training home, we fit seamlessly alongside their existing soccer commitments.
